Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Center

Overview

Celona Consulting was commissioned to develop a concept and planning-stage design for a two-storey side extension to the Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Centre—a well-known leisure venue located at the base of one of the UK’s longest dry ski slopes.

The proposed scheme was designed to enhance the visitor experience through expanded indoor hospitality, improved external social spaces, and upgraded operational facilities—delivering a more engaging and commercially efficient environment for guests and staff alike.

Design Objectives

  • Expand the existing restaurant and bar areas with a two-storey extension

  • Introduce a large, elevated outdoor deck for slope-side viewing and relaxation

  • Incorporate a coffee bar on the upper deck to serve spectators and guests

  • Provide additional ground-level storage to support operational needs

  • Maintain accessibility and functionality during potential phased construction

Key Design Features

  • Two-Storey Extension: Located to the side of the main building, the addition increases internal capacity with improved bar and dining layouts

  • Upper Deck & Coffee Bar: A spacious outdoor terrace on the first floor integrates a dedicated coffee bar and seating area, offering elevated views over the slope and creating a vibrant social hub

  • Contemporary Material Palette: Proposed finishes include durable cladding, glazed balustrades, and warm natural accents to complement the site’s character

  • Enhanced Customer Flow: Internal spaces reconfigured for improved movement between entrance, bar, dining, and terrace

  • Operational Support: Additional secure storage provided at ground level for equipment and site logistics

Outcome

Although the project did not proceed beyond the design stage due to changes in the client’s strategic direction, the scheme showcased Celona Consulting’s ability to develop thoughtful, commercially responsive architecture for high-traffic leisure venues.
